As a baby's sleep preferences change, a convertible shoulder design allows for both arms-in and arms-up sleep, so the same piece can adjust as a baby starts wanting more freedom of movement, helping make the eventual transition out of swaddling altogether noticeably simpler.
Because it converts as a baby grows, it also removes the need to buy an entirely separate product the moment arms-out sleep becomes preferable.
